TL;DR: n8n lists Starter (€24/mo), Pro (€60/mo), Business (€800/mo, self-hosted only) and Enterprise (custom), plus a free cloud plan and the free self-hosted Community Edition. n8n charges per workflow execution (one whole run), not per node or per step. Annual billing saves 17%.

The n8n pricing model, in one paragraph

n8n bills by workflow execution: one execution is a single run of your entire workflow, however many steps it has or how much data it processes. Tools that bill per task or operation charge for each step instead. A 50-node AI pipeline costs the same per run as a 2-node webhook-to-Slack hop.

Plan-by-plan deep dive

Community Edition (Free, self-hosted)

The self-hosted Community Edition is free and available on GitHub. You run it on your own infrastructure, and n8n does not cap executions on a self-hosted instance. The catch: you handle backups, security patches, monitoring, and upgrades yourself.

Cloud Starter (€24/month, 2,500 executions)

The entry point for non-technical teams who want managed hosting. 2,500 executions sounds tight but remember — one workflow run, regardless of complexity. A daily report workflow firing once a day uses 30 executions/month. A lead enrichment pipeline triggered by every form submit uses 1 execution per lead. If you have 5 workflows each running 500 times per month, you're at 2,500 executions — fits exactly on Starter.

n8n lists unlimited active workflows on every plan, so the limits that bite on Starter are the 2,500 executions and 5 concurrent executions.

Cloud Pro (€60/month, 10,000 executions)

Four times the executions of Starter, 20 concurrent executions, and 30 days of execution logs. A 50,000-execution option is listed at €145/month.

Limits: no SSO (it starts at Business). Dedicated support is Enterprise only.

Business (€800/month, 40,000 executions, self-hosted)

n8n describes Business as for companies with fewer than 100 employees. It adds SSO and LDAP, and n8n's pricing page says the plan is currently available only for self-hosted n8n, with a waitlist for a hosted version. Extra executions are sold in buckets of 300,000 for €4,000.

The €800 jump from Pro is mostly an SSO decision: SSO is not on Starter or Pro.

Enterprise (Custom pricing, self-hosted or hosted by n8n)

Enterprise is quoted by sales and can be hosted by n8n or self-hosted. It lists 200+ concurrent executions, unlimited execution log retention and dedicated support.

Hidden limits and gotchas

Sub-workflows do not count as executions

If you split logic into parent and child workflows using the Execute Workflow node, n8n's docs say sub-workflow executions don't count towards your plan's monthly execution or active workflow limits.

Execution log retention varies by plan

Starter keeps 7 days of execution logs, Pro 30 days, and Enterprise is unlimited. If you're using n8n for compliance audit trails, check retention before you pick a tier.

Only production executions count

Manual test executions in the editor do not count against your quota. Executions started by triggers, schedules or polling do.

Going over quota is billed, not paused

n8n says workflows keep running when you exceed your quota, but overage charges may apply if you do not move to the next usage tier. If there is no upgrade, overages are invoiced 45 days after they occur. Forecast executions before go-live.

When self-hosting saves money vs costs money

Self-hosting Community Edition is free, but the cost is operational overhead.

How to pick your n8n plan

Pick Community (self-hosted) if: you have engineering capacity, want full data control, or need to comply with strict data residency.

Pick Cloud Starter if: you need under 2,500 monthly executions and want zero ops overhead.

Pick Cloud Pro if: you need 10,000 executions (or the 50,000 option) hosted by n8n.

Pick Business if: you need SSO or LDAP, can self-host, and run up to 40,000 executions/month.

Pick Enterprise if: you need Business-level features hosted by n8n, dedicated support, or custom execution volumes.
