  • Knowledge Graph grounds output in the company's own documents and connected sources
  • Playbooks and Agent Skills can be described in natural language by non-technical staff
  • Enterprise plan offers a HIPAA BAA and a SOC 2 Type II report on request; Writer states it does not train its models on customer data by default
  • Own Palmyra model family, and Enterprise can work with other preferred LLMs
What We Don't
  • No free plan, only a 14-day trial, and Starter is capped at 5 users
  • Setup complexity is real: Knowledge Graph population, style guide configuration, and Agent Skills creation all require dedicated time and resources to do well
  • No published seat prices on the plans page; Enterprise pricing goes through sales

Writer.com: Detailed Review

Writer was launched in 2020 by May Habib (CEO) and Waseem AlShikh (CTO) and is headquartered in San Francisco. It sells an enterprise AI agent platform with brand governance and company knowledge grounding at its centre.

The Knowledge Graph: Grounding AI in Company Truth

The Knowledge Graph ingests company documents and connected sources so the model answers from approved company content rather than general training data. The plans page lists storage of 50 GB in a single graph and unlimited active connectors on Enterprise (Starter: up to 3). Prebuilt connectors include Google Workspace, Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive, Atlassian Confluence and Jira, Slack, Salesforce, HubSpot, Gong, Asana, Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery.

Brand Voice and Style Guide Enforcement

Writer's Style Guide feature lets organisations codify brand voice, terminology preferences and writing standards, and Personality profiles set tone per team (one on Starter, departmental profiles on Enterprise).

Agent Skills and Playbooks

Writer launched Playbooks, Routines, Connectors and Personality with the new WRITER Agent on 18 November 2025. Playbooks turn a frequently used workflow into a repeatable, shareable asset run from the WRITER Agent chat; Routines schedule them. On 25 March 2026 Writer added an Agent Skills creator and an upgraded Playbook builder: staff describe a workflow in natural language and Writer generates the steps, and Playbooks can fire on events or schedules.

Compliance and Security

Writer states it adheres to GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II and PCI, with HIPAA and SOC 2 Type II reports available on request for Enterprise plans. Its plans page lists a BAA for HIPAA and a DPA for GDPR and CCPA. Writer says it takes a zero data retention approach and does not train or improve its models on customer data by default.

AI Model Architecture

Writer builds its own Palmyra model family. Palmyra X6 is the default model for WRITER Agent (1M token context); Palmyra X5 and X4 are scheduled for deprecation on 14 December 2026. Enterprise plans can also work with other preferred LLMs.

Verdict

Our Verdict
Good fit for large enterprises that need brand governance, knowledge grounding and compliance paperwork (HIPAA BAA, SOC 2 Type II report) on an AI writing and agent platform. Poor fit for teams of more than 5 that want self-serve pricing, since Starter is capped at 5 users and Enterprise goes through sales. This verdict rests on Writer's public documentation, not a hands-on trial.
